Every town in Maine has a General Assistance program that helps people in need who have no other resources. Assistance is provided for basic necessities, such as affordable housing, utilities, and food. Holden General Assistance is available to Holden residents only.
Applications are accepted at the Town of Holden Monday-Thursday 8:00 A.M to 5:30 P.M. In an emergency, a person may apply for assistance anytime by contacting the Holden Police Department at (207)843-5442.
Applications for General Assistance may be picked up at the Town of Holden.

GENERAL ASSISTANCE NOTICE
The Town of Holden administers a General Assistance program, pursuant to Title 22 MRSA (4305). The Town has adopted an ordinance establishing that program. A copy of this ordinance is available for public inspection at 570 Main Rd., Holden, ME. Also available for inspection is a copy of the state of Maine general assistance statutes
The General Assistance program must take an application for persons/households who wish to apply for General Assistance. The general assistance worker must issue a written decision regarding eligibility to all applicants within 24 hours of receiving an application. Applications are taken at the following time: Monday-Thursday 8:00 A.M. to 5:30 P.M. The municipality is required to have a representative available 24 hours a day to handle emergency applications. If you are in an emergency situation after office hours, contact The Holden Police Department at (207) 843-5442 If the municipality refuses to take your application or if you are denied assistance and/or have questions, call the Department of Human Services General Assistance Hotline toll free telephone number 1-800-442-6003, Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. If you call after 5:00 P.M. leave a message with the phone number and you will be contacted the next business day.
