When Are Elections Scheduled?The Annual Town Election is held in June. Special local elections maybe called by the Town Council during the year as needed. Notice of elections are posted at the Town Office, the Holden Post Office and several businesses in Town. Most elections are held at the Town Office however, occasionally if a very large turnout is expected the election may be held at the Holden Elementary School. The Secretary of State sets the date and times for State and Federal elections. How Do I Register To Vote?The State of Maine allows residents to register to vote anytime, including the day of the elections. Residents of Holden may register to vote at the Town Office. Proof of residency and proof of identity is required, such as a driver's license or a piece of mail indicating a physical street address in Holden (not a post office box mailing address). If you are currently registered and wish to change any information such as married name or residence address, which is pertinent to your voting record, please visit the Town Office, 570 Main Rd., Holden, ME 04429. How Can I Vote Absentee?Effective April 10, 2000, Maine now has "no reason" absentee voting. The law permits absentee ballots to be cast at any election by any voter who properly requests a ballot. A voter may cast his/her absentee ballot at the Town Office during normal working hours. Absentee ballots are available approximately 30 days prior to the election. Absentee ballots can be requested
Absentee Voting for the November 5, 2024 General Election will take place beginning October 1, 2024. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot by phone, written request or electronically is Thursday, October 31, 2024.
