Conservation Commission Mission Statement

Our mission is to promote wise stewardship, conservation, and protection of the town's natural resources and rural character.

Beginning with Habitat Maps

Please visit the website, Beginning with Habitat, http://www.beginningwithhabitat.org/

" Beginning with Habitat is a habitat-based landscape approach to assessing wildlife and plant conservation needs and opportunities. The goal of the program is to maintain sufficient habitat to support all native plant and animal species currently breeding in Maine by providing each Maine town with a collection of maps and accompanying information depicting and describing various habitats of statewide and national significance found in the town. These maps provide communities with information that can help guide conservation of valuable habitats."

Please visit the Town Office to obtain the following digital maps:

Water Resources & Riparian Habitats

Wetlands and land around lakes, ponds, rivers, streams and the coast

High Value Plant & Animal Habitats

Important and sensitive habitats including locations of exemplary natural communities, rare plants, habitat for threatened and endangered species, species of special concern, Significant Wildlife Habitat, and habitat for federal trust species

Undeveloped Habitat Blocks

Blocks of undeveloped land greater than 250 acres

Public and Conservation Lands

Federal, state, and privately conserved land

Large Areas of Interior Forest

Forestland areas within undeveloped blocks of habitat

Aerial Imagery

Aerial imagery to help relate the habitat maps to objects on the ground
