Public Works

Statistics

Holden has approximately 40 miles of roads and all but one mile is paved. Nine miles are State roads and 31 miles are Town roads. The Town maintains all the Town roads and the State roads are maintained by the Maine Department of Transportation, except for 2.5 miles which are plowed and sanded by the Town. In an average winter the Town uses 3500 cubic yards of sand and 250 tons of salt. Summer work consists of sweeping roads, ditching, and brush cutting. The Town also has an ongoing paving program where we contract to pave 3 to 5 miles of road each year.
